Professional Garden Design in harmony with nature

Do you dream of walking out into a buzzing, chirping, magical garden, full of fragrance, colour and life?

Have you always wanted your own beautiful nature garden, but felt unsure about where to start, what plants to choose and how to use them?

Are you struggling to fit everything in or wondering how to make it all flow?

We can help.

Working with nature - How we design

We have been designing and creating private gardens and community spaces in harmony with nature for many years. In that time we've worked in gardens of all sizes to create all sorts of beautiful spaces.

We've created wildlife ponds, orchards, food growing areas, forest gardens, wildflower lawns, edible gardens and much more. We believe every space wants to thrive and our aim is to design gardens that work well for people and nature.

Nature-based design

We use ecological and permaculture approaches, which means we focus on designing gardens and spaces that are guided by and aligned with nature. We design in low impact materials, aim for low carbon gardens, always integrate plants that support wildlife and try to find ways to save resources and reduce waste in the design.

We can create whole garden designs or can focus just on features or areas of gardens. We can also implement the planting plans, create ponds or specialist spaces like forest gardens or orchards.

We are proud to have a long record of excellent reviews, which you can read below.

You'll be a part of the creative process and we'll do the design work. We'll develop proposals and final designs for a garden that inspires you and welcomes the wildlife that visits.

Patch of the Planet has over a decade's experience and we've got fifty-plus gardens under our belts, so we're confident we can give you that special garden; one that you'll love, helps nature flourish and is tailored to your space, budget and needs.

We use permaculture design techniques, which are guided by the patterns of nature, and are guided by the principles of ecology too. We have designed wildlife gardens, family gardens, orchards, cottage gardens, forest gardens, community gardens, food gardens and a lot of gardens that have a diverse mix of it all.

Every garden we design is crafted to deliver on your own hopes and aspirations, to tread lightly on the planet and to enhance conditions for wildlife and the natural world.

We work with community groups and private individuals in Pembrokeshire. We're also in the early stages of developing a distance-design package for those further afield. Get in touch to discuss any of these options.

Testimonials

Here are some reviews of our designs, from just a few of our past clients:

Oli and Rachel

Neil and Dina totally rebuilt our garden (it was just a bunch of grass before). They put in a pond, an insect hotel of their design, a raised hill, raised beds, a willow arch, planted a tonne of things and even built my shed and replaced my gate. It looks completely amazing now!

They were really helpful with planning this all out, I knew I wanted something eco-firendly but had no idea where to start! They were a perfect fit for us, they worked out where the best light would be for the veg-beds and took soil samples and everything they built came from good sources and was designed to work together to avoid a ton of maintenance.

One thing I particularly wanted was to be able to get some bats living in the garden, and within days after the pond and insect hotel were in place I started noticing some turning up to scout things out.

It’s so much better now and feels actually like a living thing rather than just a space. I’m looking forward to see how it all grows out. And to try my hand at homegrowing some veggies!”

Donna:

Neil and Dina are like garden fairy godparents. They wave their wands and turn your vaguest garden dreams into a beautiful garden to enjoy whilst knowing that you are doing the right thing for your patch of the planet and all the creatures and plants that live there.

I cannot recommend them enough. They are totally professional and passionate about what they do.

Graham and Catherine:

Dina and Neil are lovely people to have transforming your garden, having a professional, calm and friendly approach. They listened well to what we wanted and to any concerns we had, giving options without pushing to extend the budget.

We wanted a peaceful and beautiful garden and now have structure and drama without compromising tranquility. Their ideas have completely transformed our garden. We love it!

Chloe and Ed:

We don’t know where to start to find the words to convey our absolute gratitude at all your hard work over the last few weeks.

In a world of daily change and uncertainty  you remained our calm and constant. You kept the project on track, provided regular reassurance and worked non stop!

We gave you a brief for basically what we thought was impossible in our space-we asked for a huge bespoke play area, a grown up eating area, places to grow food, places for the children to explore and let their imaginations grow whilst still allowing room for a football pitch!

After patiently enduring a lengthy Pinterest bombardment you sent us the first plans and it made our hearts skip a beat, could we really have all this in our garden? The answer was a resounding yes… and now we have our dream garden-and more-we now have our own special patch of the planet we can watch grow and develop along with our children.

You have given us a beautiful garden and so much more.

Bill and Sandra:

“Neil and Dina were brilliant. We wanted a complete re-design of our back garden, and they did everything for us. Their emphasis is on making an environmentally friendly garden, and we are delighted with the end result. Highly recommended.”

Hayley:

“We feel so lucky that we were introduced to Patch of the Planet. Neil and Dina are a dream to work with and go above and beyond to transform garden spaces. We provided them with a very vague brief to design and plant a large flower bed and to design and plant our kitchen garden with edibles.

Their plans were perfect and we didn’t need to change a thing.

We have enjoyed the whole process as Neil and Dina have made it all so easy. They have communicated throughout so we always knew what was happening when and we have been left with a wonderful manual giving us step by step advice of how to look after all our plants.

I can not recommended their services highly enough, it has been a joy and we can not wait to work with them again on our next phase.”

Sue:

“Patch of the Planet has totally transformed my suburban garden – the designs have given me hope for something so much more magical than I’d ever have dreamed for our small town patch.”

Graham:

“Patch of the planet worked with me on a project for a local resident . They took the time to sit down and talk to the resident and clarify his wishes, then sourced a suitable tree, which given it was late in the season was not a straightforward job. They then planted it properly and left the family enthusing about the professional, caring and friendly service received.

I would highly recommend them.”

Sandra:

“Neil & Dina are designing plans to incorporate our two gardens into one. They have spent time asking questions, discussing likes and dislikes and have come up with a design that fully meets the brief within budget. Their enthusiasm for the project is evident as is their extensive knowledge of plants and design, particularly their expertise in edible plants and environmentally friendly design which really appeals.

Neil and Dina are passionate about their work and this has resulted in ideas we would never have thought of without their assistance and knowledge. At the intial meeting their costs and time scheduling were clearly set out. Soil samples have been taken to make sure the right plants are chosen.

A very professional service, highly recommended.”

Linda:

“My previously boring suburban garden has been transformed into my dream by Patch of the Planet. The whole garden flows with soft lines and shapes and paths lead to different areas of interest – a wildflower area with seat tucked away for peace and for watching the bees, a pond surrounded by beautiful ferns logs and more, a herb and medicinal plant area whose path flows through to my greenhouse and an enclosed meditation area as well as flowing areas of lawn.

Neil and Dina listened carefully to what I wanted and gave me suggestions and new ideas. They were very knowledgeable and a joy to work with. If I changed my mind about anything they were happy to adapt and discuss my thoughts.

My garden is no longer a boring rectangular lawn, it is now a beautiful space that I can enjoy and be proud of. I would highly recommend Patch of the Planet if you want to enjoy the experience of transforming your garden.”

Colette:

“I am absolutely loving working with Patch of the Planet on my garden transformation. I moved into a house where the back garden consisted of a patch of grass, a few paving slabs, a huge shed and not a lot else. I love being outdoors, surrounded by greenery and nature and really wanted to have a positive impact on the environment and wildlife through my garden. This made Patch of the Planet the perfect match for me.

When they visited to view my garden we had a really good chat about what I wanted the end goal to be. I found this hard but they knew the questions to ask to get me thinking about what I wanted to create, how I wanted to use my garden and what elements I needed to have.

When they sent the two design options through to me they brought me to tears – in a happy way! I would never have come anywhere close doing this on my own. The way they had included everything I wanted and loads more on top, in a fairly small area, was amazing.

Once I’d responded with which of the designs I had chosen to go with they also sent me a planting plan, explaining the reasons for their suggestions which just made so much sense."
